Layout: Footer

Footer Layout Overview #

Footer Widths #

Footer layout options can be found in Customize > Layout > Footer.

The Footer Width option is the outer container of your footer, including your footer widgets and copyright area.

Setting this to Full will make your background color/image span the entire width of your screen.

Setting it to Contained will contain it to the width of your container, set in Customize > Container.

The Inner Footer Width option refers to the inner container which holds the content of your footer (Footer widgets, copyright area).

Setting this to Full will make your footer content span the entire width of your screen.

Setting it to Contained will contain your footer content to the width of your container.

Footer Widgets #

There are 5 footer widget areas in GeneratePress. You can choose whether to display 0 – 5 of them at any time.

Global setting #

You can find the global setting to set the number of footer widgets in Customize > Layout > Footer.

Some individual pages and posts might require a different number of footer widgets than your global settings. In this case, you can use the Layout metabox while editing that page/post.

Footer Bar Widget Area #

You can add widgets into the footer bar, which is the area that holds your copyright message.

This can be super useful for adding things like menus or social icons.

First, you want to create a new menu in  Settings > Menus that will be dedicated to your footer. You can learn how to that here.

Then, go to Appearance > Widgets and drag the Custom Menu widget into the Footer Bar widget area.

Inside that widget, you can select your newly created menu.

Adding social icons #

You can use a plugin like Lightweight Social Icons which adds a social icon widget to your site, or you can use a menu along with Font Awesome as explained in this article.

By default, there’s 3 different position for the footer bar – left, center and right.

You can choose your alignment in Customize > Layout > Footer.

Back to Top Button #

You can find the option to turn on the back to top button in Customize > Layout > Footer.

This option adds a button to the bottom of your website once you start scrolling that helps your visitor scroll back to the top of the page.

By default, the button appears at the bottom right of your page.

Footer Widget & Footer Padding #

We can adjust the padding of the footer widget area and the footer area (copyright) in Customize > Layout > Footer.

You can change the amount of space surrounding your footer widgets using these options.

Note that this can be adjusted separately for desktop and mobile by using the toggle buttons.

The copyright area also has padding options you can adjust.
